My Philosophy

To be a different adult voice for your child’s life…

As a practitioner I strive to truly understand the world as experienced by children and youth. I have a genuine understanding and passion for working with children and youth during times of change and growth. My practice is centred around relieving suffering and psychological injuries through a collaborative relationship with children, youth and their families. I can also provide proven tools, psychoeducation, and knowledgeable support. My work is individually tailored for each client, and I draw on principals such as: play, art, movement, cognitive-behavioural therapy and mindfulness.

About Me

I completed my Bachelor of Art in Psychology in 2013 and my Master of Education in School Counselling (K-12) in 2016 from the University of Missouri – Saint Louis (UMSL). As a graduate candidate I was employed as an academic advisor and transfer liaison to adult learners as well as a counselling intern for Running Start high school students simultaneously completing their high school diploma and associate degree at Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC).

I interned at Metro Academic & Classical High School (grades 9-12) in Saint Louis, MO where I met with students individually and in group settings on a weekly basis to address and maintain social-emotional, academic, and career-related challenges and enrichment. This unique experience allowed me to work with gifted students in a diverse, public school atmosphere. I designed and ran groups to manage high levels of stress and anxiety and low mood. Students reported having more strategies and a greater ability to self-regulate at the end of our group.

Around this time my interest in the theoretical model of play therapy developed, and I completed coursework, presentations, and video play sessions for Introduction to Play Therapy with Chris Turner (RPT-S) and Advanced Play Therapy with Stephanie Williams (RPT-S). This experiential coursework allowed me to land a second internship at Discovery Ridge Elementary (grades K-5) where I used nondirective and directive play with students presenting with behavioral, self-regulation, friendship, family, stress/anxiety, and low mood concerns.

After graduation, I volunteered as a Youth Development Facilitator under the Children, Youth, and Family sector in the Philippines with the United States Peace Corps. My focus was on assisting disadvantaged Filipino children and youth by providing care, counseling, and education to Filipinos experiencing extreme poverty. I worked most closely with college student scholarship grantees to provide opportunities to become co-facilitators. Our work together relied heavily on my scholarship grantees expertise in cultural guidance and translation. The absolute necessity for collaboration and the power behind it strongly informed my current practice and curiosity I presently hold for each family and child I meet.

From the Philippines I moved to gorgeous Victoria, BC and completed a 200-hour trauma informed yoga teacher certification to continue broadening knowledge and techniques for regulation. I’ve volunteered and worked in a multitude of settings and continue to teach yoga to children and youth.

I currently split my time at a counselling community and training centre where I work as an RCC with children, youth and families and in private practice. I have obtained registration with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors and am currently pursuing the British Columbia Registered Play Therapist (BCRPT) designation.  I have received training to support emergency workers and their families and am certified through First Responder Health: Level 1 Occupationally Aware Clinician for First Responders.

I am so excited to meet you, and I welcome any questions.
